The Scotch Game starts as follows:
This premature central push seems logical but dissolves the tension in the center too early. This allows Black to counter with d5 later on having no difficulties.
3…exd 4.Nxd
You have to deal with the two main lines now 4….Bc5 and 4….Nf6.
Not recommended is the space-grabbing 4…Qh4? because of 5.Nc3 Bb4 6.Nb5 Qxe4+ 7.Be2 BxN+ 8.bxB Kd8 and coordination of Blacks pieces is disturbed as the black king can’t castle anymore.
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd 4.Nxd Bc5 | 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd 4.Nxd Nf6 |
