The Hennig Schara Gambit is part of the Tarrasch Defense characterized by the moves:
1. d4 d5
2. c4 e6
3. Nc3 c5
Main line of the Tarrasch goes now: 4. cxd5 exd5 5. Nf3 Nc6 6. g3 Nf6 but we are not considering this here because after 4.cxd5, Black may offer the Hennig-Schara Gambit with 4…cxd4 (instead of recapturing with 4…exd5). This gambit may not be completely sound but can be used as a surprize weapon. Even a grandmaster can fail to handle it correctly as White.
