The Philidor Defence is a solid but passive chess opening for Black and not often played at top level chess.
It starts with the moves 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 as an alternative to the common 2…Nc6. Be aware that when you play 2…d6 your bishop at f8 can not go to the active square c5 or b4 anymore, but is locked in.
